Inge Schrijver
- PhD researcher, Wellbeing Inclusivity Sustainability & the Economy, Leiden University
Inge is a PhD researcher at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) of Leiden University (the Netherlands). Her PhD is part of the WISE Horizons project funded by Horizon Europe. The project supports shifting focus from GDP to Sustainable Inclusive Wellbeing, aiming to create WISE indicators (to replace GDP), WISE accounts (to replace the System of National Accounts) and WISE models (to replace macro-economic modelling).
Inge's subject within the project is the relationships between the environment and wellbeing and how these could be included in models. She has studied the impact of climate change on wellbeing and the impact of the top 10% consumers on planetary boundaries. Next, she will focus on circular economy in relation to inequalities and wellbeing.
Before starting her PhD, Inge worked for the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, among others on integrating "broad prosperity" into policymaking.
Inge holds a BSc from University College Utrecht where she majored in chemistry and earth & environmental sciences. After finding that climate change and sustainability issues have their cause in the economic system, she studied the MA Economics for Transition at Schumacher College in England to look for alternatives. She wrote her dissertation on alternative finance and money initiatives in the Netherlands. After her studies, Inge participated in the Dutch National Think Tank in 2018 with the topic of circular economy.
