Erdogan Receives WHO Europe Award for Türkiye’s Medical Support

(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was honored on Wednesday with the World Health Organization (WHO) Europe Award in recognition of Türkiye’s humanitarian assistance to Palestinians and its involvement in facilitating medical evacuations from Gaza.

The accolade was conferred by WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge during the 11th Turkish Medical World Congress held in Ankara.

During his address at the event, Erdogan sharply criticized the global community’s inaction regarding the devastation of hospitals and the deaths of patients, medical staff, and infants in Gaza over the past two years.

“It will certainly not be easy for the world to move from a reality where, for two full years, it remained a spectator as hospitals in Gaza were bombed and patients, health workers, children, and even innocent babies in incubators were killed,” he emphasized.

Erdogan further remarked that the world would transform into “a paradise” the moment humanity collectively rejoices in saving lives and celebrates the safe arrival of every newborn as if it were its own happiness.

“This is exactly what we are working for,” he stated.

Highlighting Türkiye’s domestic achievements, Erdogan noted that the nation has extensively reformed its health care system over the past 23 years, creating a comprehensive, high-quality, and accessible network for the entire population.

He added that the country currently provides top-tier services to 86 million residents with the support of more than 1.47 million health care professionals.
