Trump launches “Genesis Mission” to accelerate AI in science

(MENAFN) According to the White House, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday creating the “Genesis Mission,” a national program aimed at using artificial intelligence to speed up scientific progress. The directive describes AI as the defining arena in the competition for global technological leadership and asserts that the US is entering what it calls a pivotal contest.

The text of the order states: “From the founding of our Republic, scientific discovery and technological innovation have driven American progress,” noting that today’s challenges demand “a historic national effort.” It adds that "This order launches the ‘Genesis Mission’ as a dedicated, coordinated national effort to unleash a new age of AI accelerated innovation and discovery that can solve the most challenging problems of this century.”

Under the plan, the Department of Energy (DOE) will take charge of building the initiative’s core structure — a unified American Science and Security Platform. As reported, this system will merge national laboratory supercomputers, secure cloud systems, AI-driven tools, advanced predictive models, and a vast collection of federally maintained scientific data into a single integrated infrastructure.

The DOE has been given 90 days to catalog all federal computing and storage assets, including possible collaborations with private industry. Within 120 days, it must determine which datasets and AI model resources will serve as the foundation of the effort. The executive order requires that the platform’s first functioning demonstration be completed within 270 days.
