French People Show Strong Support for Voluntary Military Service

(MENAFN) Almost three-quarters of the French population are in favor of a "voluntary military service," according to a poll released on Thursday by a broadcaster BFMTV.

The survey, conducted by Elabe for BFMTV, revealed that 73% of respondents endorse the establishment of a voluntary military service program. In contrast, 9% are firmly against it, and 18% oppose it.

The results also indicated that support varies by age group. Individuals aged 25-34 are the least enthusiastic, with 60% expressing approval. On the other hand, more than 80% of people aged 65 and above favor the initiative.

This poll emerges ahead of President Emmanuel Macron's anticipated announcement of the new voluntary military service program.

He is expected to present it during his visit to the 27th Mountain Infantry Brigade in the southeastern town of Varces on Thursday.
