Geneva Talks Represent Key Progress in Russia-Ukraine Peace
(MENAFN) The White House announced on Sunday that high-level peace discussions in Geneva represented a “significant step forward” toward developing a potential settlement structure intended to conclude the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The negotiations included US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll, and a senior Ukrainian delegation.
Officials described the session as an “extensive and productive” review of the most recent draft agreements outlined under Trump’s peace proposal.
According to the White House statement, the talks were "candid and detailed," with both parties carefully addressing essential modifications to the evolving peace framework.
Ukrainian delegates confirmed that their main concerns—covering security guarantees, long-term economic growth, infrastructure protection, freedom of navigation, and political sovereignty—were fully considered during the Geneva meeting.
"Ukrainian representatives stated that, based on the revisions and clarifications presented today, they believe the current draft reflects their national interests and provides credible and enforceable mechanisms to safeguard Ukraine’s security in both the near and long term," the White House reported.
The Ukrainian side emphasized improvements in the security guarantee structure, commitments to non-aggression, energy sector stability, and reconstruction as major accomplishments in the talks.
