(MENAFN) The United States and Ukraine have formulated an “updated and refined” peace framework following discussions in Geneva, according to a joint announcement released Sunday by the White House.

“The discussions showed meaningful progress toward aligning positions and identifying clear next steps,” the statement noted. Officials emphasized that any forthcoming accord must fully respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and ensure a sustainable and just peace.

These comments came in the wake of talks where delegations reviewed Washington’s latest peace initiative aimed at concluding the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The announcement characterized the negotiations as “constructive, focused, and respectful,” highlighting a mutual dedication to achieving a durable resolution.

Both delegations agreed the meetings were “highly productive” and indicated that the updated framework mirrors progress achieved over recent weeks.

On Sunday, the US and Ukraine reported notable advancements, describing the discussions as the most fruitful so far in the ongoing effort to negotiate a peace deal for Ukraine.

The statement followed high-level talks in Geneva, during which senior US and Ukrainian officials examined a 28-point proposal designed to accelerate peace initiatives in the region.

The sessions included a US delegation led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff. US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll also participated in the Geneva meetings as part of the team.
