India Urges Unity Against Terrorism at SCO Meeting
(MENAFN) Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has urged the international community to adopt a stance of “zero tolerance” toward terrorism.
Addressing the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Moscow on Tuesday, Jaishankar emphasized that the organization was established to tackle the three menaces of terrorism, separatism, and extremism.
“It is imperative that the world displays zero tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” he remarked.
“There can be no justification, no looking away, and no whitewashing.”
Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s stance that the nation possesses the right to safeguard its citizens against terrorism and will actively exercise that right.
He further highlighted the unpredictable and volatile nature of the global economy, noting that supply-side vulnerabilities have been worsened by complex demand-side factors.
“There is consequently an urgent need to derisk and diversify. This is best done by as many of us forging the widest possible economic links,” the Indian foreign minister emphasized.
The SCO session, presided over by Russia, concentrated on discussions among member states as well as the execution of decisions made, including those from the summit in Tianjin, China, earlier this year.
The Tianjin summit saw participation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
