Hamas Denies Claims of Resuming Military Operations
(MENAFN) Reports suggesting that Hamas is prepared to restart military actions in Gaza are false, a representative from the movement’s political bureau stated on Saturday.
He further accused Israel of fabricating these allegations.
Earlier news outlets had indicated that the Palestinian militant organization informed US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner that the ceasefire in Gaza had ended, citing repeated violations by Israel.
“Reports from Israeli sources that Hamas informed Witkoff the agreement had ended are false,” Izzat Al-Rishq affirmed, according to multiple Middle Eastern media sources.
He added, “Israel is reportedly manufacturing pretexts to evade the agreement and return to a campaign of destruction. It is the party that systematically breaches the ceasefire on a daily basis.”
The ceasefire, brokered in Sharm el-Sheikh with the involvement of Trump and mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, was designed to halt hostilities in Gaza following months of heavy conflict.
The accord stipulated that Israel would withdraw from certain areas of the enclave while Hamas would release 20 Israeli hostages in return for 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Saturday that West Jerusalem carried out strikes in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of five Hamas officials.
Netanyahu claimed the attacks were a response to a violation of the truce by Hamas, a claim the group has rejected.
In its most recent statement, Hamas reportedly urged mediators and the US administration to step in and ensure Israel adheres to the conditions of the agreement.
