BANGKOK - One Asia Communications (OAC), which is a network of independent communications agencies spanning 12 Asian markets, has appointed Ong Hock Chuan, managing partner of Maverick Indonesia, as its chair for 2025-2027.
The appointment comes as the communications industry faces fundamental shifts driven by artificial intelligence and changing information discovery patterns.
OAC members voted for Ong's leadership during their annual gathering in Bangkok, where the network also released "AI Adoption among PR Professionals in Asia 2025", a white paper examining how communications practitioners are adapting to AI technologies in the region.
"We are in the midst of a time when technology is upending traditional approaches to marketing, brand building, and reputation management because of an increasing reliance on Generative AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity to discover information and news," said Ong. "The white paper represents one of our first steps to help communicators in the region cope with these changes."
The network brings together owner-operated communications agencies from Cambodia, China/Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, offering brands a unique combination of local market expertise and pan-regional coordination.
"Many brands and corporations will need help in navigating through this increasingly complicated and interlinked communications landscape," Ong explained. "OAC is here to help them do just that, as on top of our Generative Engine Optimization capabilities, we also have deep local knowledge of the markets where we operate."
Ong emphasized that OAC's structure as a network of owner-operated agencies provides distinct advantages. "OAC is different from other communications networks in that it melds the commitment and in-depth business understanding of owner-operated agencies into a Pan-Asian network capable of serving clients operating in the region," he said.
Under Ong's leadership, Maverick Indonesia has pioneered research on AI's impact on communications, publishing the first studies in Asia on AI visibility in its market.
