US Draft Peace Framework Outlines Concessions for Ukraine
(MENAFN) A preliminary 28-point peace proposal endorsed by U.S. President Donald Trump would compel Ukraine to relinquish more territory to Russia, restrict the scale of its armed forces, and officially drop its pursuit of NATO membership.
These details were reported by a news website in the United States.
According to the plan, U.S. Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll presented the written outline to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday.
Afterward, Zelenskyy stated that he was open to reviewing the proposal with Trump’s representatives, describing it as a U.S. “vision” instead of a definitive settlement.
The website quoted a U.S. official who characterized the proposal as a “live document” that could still be revised, while maintaining that it represents a balanced structure Washington expects Ukraine to evaluate earnestly.
The draft — which the website said it had obtained and confirmed with both Ukrainian and U.S. officials — recommends limiting Ukraine’s military strength to 600,000 service members and obligating the nation to alter its constitution to give up its intention to join NATO.
In exchange, NATO would formally pledge never to include Ukraine in the alliance, and the organization would be prohibited from deploying forces within Ukrainian territory.
Under the framework, Crimea, Luhansk, and Donetsk would be acknowledged as effectively controlled by Russia, while Kherson and Zaporizhzhia would remain frozen along the present line of confrontation.
Additionally, Ukrainian forces would pull back from the remaining zones of Donetsk under their authority, which would be turned into a neutral, demilitarized buffer region internationally acknowledged as part of Russia.
