Algorithmic Power Shapes Modern Media Landscape - Egyptian Representative

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 21. Algorithms are increasingly dominating newsrooms, Ezzat Ibrahim Youssef, editor-in-chief of Egypt's Al-Ahram Weekly and Al-Ahram Online, said at the panel discussion“Responsible Journalism and Digital Innovation” held within the D-8 Media Forum titled“Promoting Dialogue, Cooperation, and Regional Solidarity,” Trend reports.

He warned of the dangers of inadequate regulation and said that a structured process is required to deal with the problems caused by AI.

“The lack of adequate regulation and the loss of control over artificial intelligence can lead to dangerous consequences. Major chaos may arise in the media sector. The dominance of social platforms will continue in the future. Governments will no longer be able to regulate the media sphere as before, and as a result, we will face the necessity of bringing media institutions together. Establishing new centers could be an important step in discussing these rules. Today, algorithms dominate newsrooms, and the public is not satisfied with the performance of media organizations,” he added.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation has inaugurated a media forum titled "Fostering Dialogue, Collaboration, and Regional Cohesion" in Baku. Approximately 150 visitors are participating in the forum, including 71 representatives from the eight member nations and the D-8 Secretariat.
