SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): An exhibition showcasing agricultural products and handicrafts has been inaugurated in the Aqcha district of northern Jawzjan province to find buyers for local products.

Zabihullah Khairandesh, spokesman for the Jawzjan Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, told Pajhwok Afghan News his department oeganized the exhibition in cooperation with the German non-profit organization“Welts Hunger Heilf” (WWH).

He said agricultural products and handicrafts of the residents of Aqcha district had been put on display at the show. He said 16 booths were reserved for men and 14 booths for women.

According to him, the German NGO had trained the producers in the fields of agriculture, livestock and handicrafts during the past two years in coordination with the Department of Agriculture and today they exhibited their products.

A number of women and men, who have showcased their products, asked the government to provide a market for their products and create special markets for women.

Aziza, one of the participants who has brought agricultural products and handicrafts, said the exhibition was meant at building the capacity of women.

She said:“We are in such a situation where women need more support than ever before to be able to stand on their own feet, and such exhibitions and training programs prove very effective.”

Another participant Hamida said that such programs were important to familiarise people with domestic products and strengthen the economic activities of women and men.
