Doha, Qatar: Hamad Bin Khalifa University's (HBKU) Student Success Services unit has been awarded Level 1 and Level 2 certified tutor training programmes by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).

With almost 1,300 members and over 2,000 certified training programmes worldwide, CRLA's International Tutor Training Programme Certification (ITTPC) licenses projects that have demonstrated excellence in developing, designing, and implementing effective training procedures.

The accreditation brings significant benefits to HBKU and its student support initiatives. For student tutors and learning assistants, it provides valuable career development opportunities.

The programme teaches skills commensurate with best practices, increases confidence in content areas and public speaking, and strengthens resumes with an internationally recognised certificate. In doing so, the programme sets a benchmark for academic support excellence across the institution, ensuring compliance with standard procedures in higher education tutorial services.

Associate Provost for Teaching and Learning, HBKU, Dr. Ala Al-Fuqaha stated:“The CRLA certification reflects the university's ongoing commitment to excellence in learning and student support. This recognition acknowledges the quality of our peer tutor training programme and dedication to fostering an environment where student tutors can grow academically and develop professional skills.”

Student Success Specialist, Joelle Fadlallah added:“We have worked hard to develop a tutor training programme that meets CRLA's rigorous standards and has successfully completed the ITTPC peer review process.

Achieving this signifies that our programme fulfils selection, training, service delivery, and evaluation benchmarks, ensuring quality of our support services at HBKU.”

The recognition reflects HBKU's goal of enhancing pathways for growth and enabling student success by expanding student support services, wellbeing and mentoring within the university.
