Indonesia hails UN Security Council approval of Gaza peace resolution

(MENAFN) Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday welcomed the UN Security Council’s approval of a US-drafted resolution authorizing a Board of Peace and an International Stabilization Force in Gaza.

The resolution emphasizes "conflict resolution and sustainable peace," highlighting the need for "involvement of all parties, particularly the Palestinian Authority, in resolving the conflict and the peace process, as well as a clear UN mandate for peacekeeping forces to realize a two-state solution in accordance with agreed international law and parameters."

Indonesia affirmed its continued support for the Palestinian people’s rights to "independence and sovereignty."

Earlier, Indonesia stated it has prepared 20,000 personnel for deployment to Gaza.

The US-drafted resolution, adopted Monday, calls for the establishment of a Board of Peace and authorizes an International Stabilization Force to oversee governance, reconstruction, and security in the Gaza Strip.

The draft is part of an Israel-Hamas ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement that took effect in Gaza on Oct. 10, based on a 20-point plan presented by US President Donald Trump.

The first phase of the ceasefire includes the release of Israeli hostages in return for Palestinian prisoners and outlines the reconstruction of Gaza along with the creation of a new governing structure excluding Hamas.

Since October 2023, nearly 69,500 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and more than 170,700 injured in Israel’s war, which has left the enclave in ruins.
