China, Vietnam Set to Launch Joint Naval Patrol in Beibu Gulf

(MENAFN) China’s Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday that Chinese and Vietnamese naval forces will embark on a two-day joint patrol in the Beibu Gulf, also known as the Gulf of Tonkin.

According to a ministry statement cited by media, a vessel formation from both navies will conduct their 39th coordinated patrol from Wednesday through Thursday.

The Beibu Gulf, a semi-enclosed area of the South China Sea, lies along the coastlines of Vietnam and China. The patrol is being carried out under pre-existing agreements and coordination frameworks between the two militaries.

"This will further strengthen practical cooperation between the two militaries and enhance their capability to jointly safeguard the security of the relevant waters," the ministry said.

Earlier this year, in April, Chinese and Vietnamese naval forces completed a week-long joint patrol in the Gulf of Tonkin, marking another milestone in bilateral maritime cooperation.
