FIDE files complaint against ex-World Champion over claims of cheating

(MENAFN) The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has submitted a formal complaint against ex-World Champion Vladimir Kramnik for repeatedly making public accusations of cheating against two fellow grandmasters.

The complaint, lodged with FIDE’s Ethics & Disciplinary Commission on Tuesday, lists Kramnik as the respondent and highlights a pattern of behavior over approximately two years involving American GM Daniel Naroditsky and Czech GM David Navara.

Naroditsky, the 2013 World Junior Champion and chess commentator, passed away at age 29 on October 20; the cause of death has not been disclosed. Kramnik had accused him of cheating last year and continued to share suspicions on social media, though Naroditsky consistently denied the claims.

FIDE stated that the complaint concerns potential breaches related to harassment and the violation of an individual’s dignity.

In a statement, Yolander Persaud, chairwoman of the Ethics & Disciplinary Commission, said that if the complaint is accepted, Kramnik will have up to three weeks to submit a response. After reviewing all evidence, the panel will deliberate and issue a decision, which could include sanctions.
