Chinese, Vietnamese navies to carry out two-day joint patrol

(MENAFN) China’s Defense Ministry announced Tuesday that the Chinese and Vietnamese navies will carry out a two-day joint patrol in the Beibu Gulf, also known as the Gulf of Tonkin.

The upcoming patrol, scheduled from Wednesday to Thursday, marks the 39th coordinated naval operation in the area, according to ministry statements reported by local media. The Beibu Gulf is a semi-enclosed part of the South China Sea that borders both China and Vietnam.

The operation is being held under pre-existing agreements and coordination mechanisms between the two militaries. “This will further strengthen practical cooperation between the two militaries and enhance their capability to jointly safeguard the security of the relevant waters,” the ministry said.

Earlier this year, in April, the Chinese and Vietnamese navies conducted a week-long joint patrol in the same region.
