Attack on Nigerian School Leaves Vice Principal Dead

(MENAFN) Gunmen targeted a boarding school in northwestern Nigeria, resulting in the death of the vice principal and the kidnapping of multiple female students, according to authorities.

The assailants, armed with “sophisticated weapons,” forced their way into the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School located in the village of Maga, Kebbi State, early Monday, “shooting sporadically,” stated the Nigerian Police Force in an official release.

According to the NPF, its tactical teams stationed at the school confronted the attackers in a firefight, but the criminals had already climbed over the school’s fence and taken 25 students from their dormitory, fleeing to an undisclosed location.

The police further reported that “Hassan Makuku was shot dead while Ali Shehu sustained an injury to his right hand.”

Local media identified Makuku as the vice principal. A teacher also told Reuters that Makuku was killed while trying to resist the assailants, and a security guard sustained injuries during the attack.

Nigeria continues to face a persistent problem with kidnappings orchestrated by criminal gangs and terrorist organizations operating across the country.

These groups frequently hold victims for extended periods, demanding ransom payments.

The crisis gained international attention in 2014 when Boko Haram abducted hundreds of schoolgirls from Chibok village in Borno State.

In recent months, similar attacks have occurred, including the abduction of at least 45 women and children in five villages in Zamfara State in August.

Days earlier, gunmen on motorcycles killed 11 individuals and kidnapped 70 others in Sabongarin Damri.
