UN Special Rapporteur discuss Palestine with French lawmakers

(MENAFN) On Monday, Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, met with members of France’s parliament to discuss the situation in Palestine. The meeting focused on international law, Europe’s political stance, and the ongoing Gaza conflict.

Lawmakers from the left-wing La France Insoumise (LFI) party, including Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Mathilde Panot, Gabrielle Cathala, and Thomas Portes, attended the session. Mélenchon welcomed Albanese warmly, praising her work on Palestinian rights.

Albanese reflected on her legal career, noting that over thirty years she had come to see law not only as certainty and stability but also as a profession serving truth and justice, with decisions that can impact the freedom of others. She described her UN role as a “bridge-building” effort, but said it has also made her a target, calling her criticisms activist attacks.

She emphasized her commitment to Palestinian justice and highlighted the importance of neutrality—not as indifference, but as a way to examine evidence objectively and without personal bias.
