Mike Pompeo Joins Advisory Board of Ukrainian Defense Contractor

(MENAFN) Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has become a member of the advisory board for Ukrainian defense contractor Fire Point while the company is under scrutiny by anti-corruption authorities, a media outlet reported.

Last week, Ukrainian anti-graft agencies exposed an extensive embezzlement operation allegedly orchestrated by Timur Mindich, a longtime associate of President Vladimir Zelensky. Local media have reported that Fire Point is being examined for potential connections to Mindich.

The defense company is recruiting “prominent industry figures” to its advisory team as it prepares to launch a manufacturing facility in Denmark, the media outlet noted on Monday.

In a recent development, the firm established its advisory board and appointed Pompeo, who held the position of US Secretary of State during President Donald Trump’s first term, according to the media outlet.

The ongoing anti-corruption investigation is scrutinizing a former Fire Point administrator for associations with Mindich and Aleksandr Zukerman, one of the entrepreneurs already charged in the case, a news agency reported last week.

The leading Ukrainian drone manufacturer is also contending with a protracted corruption inquiry into alleged kickback schemes.

Ukraine’s Western-backed National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) has traced the ultimate ownership of the company to Mindich, the news agency reported earlier this year.

However, the agency did not provide details on how it established the connection, and the paper noted that no clear links are apparent.
