Ukraine Signs Landmark Deal with France

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Monday that his nation has placed an order for 100 Dassault Rafale fighter jets, following an agreement he signed with French President Emmanuel Macron.

“Ukraine has just placed a historic order for 100 Rafale fighter jets to equip its army,” Zelenskyy told reporters immediately after signing a declaration of intent with Macron, according to a news agency.

The signing ceremony, aimed at enhancing bilateral defense collaboration, particularly regarding Kyiv's procurement of military equipment, was held at the Velizy-Villacoublay airbase near Paris.

During a joint press conference in the French capital later that day, Zelenskyy described the agreement as a "historic" arrangement, set to span 10 years beginning in 2026.

Under the deal, Zelenskyy noted, Ukraine will also obtain an unspecified number of "very powerful" French radar systems, along with eight SAMP/T air defense systems, each comprising six launchers.

"It is very valuable that France is taking such a step to achieve real, guaranteed security in Europe," Zelenskyy added, highlighting that he and Macron met with defense company representatives to discuss "some specific details" of technological collaboration.
