Armed outlaw groups in Syria violates truce for third day

(MENAFN) Armed outlaw groups in southern Syria’s Suwayda province have continued to violate the ceasefire agreement for a third straight day, according to state media reports on Saturday.

A security source told the official Syrian Arab News Agency that “outlaw groups in Suwayda are violating the ceasefire agreement and targeting Internal Security Forces positions along the Walgha axis in the province’s countryside.” Another source, speaking to a state-run TV channel, reported similar incidents in the village of Al-Majdal in western Suwayda. Details regarding casualties or the identity of the attackers were not provided.

On Friday, Suleiman Abdel-Baqi, head of Suwayda’s Internal Security Directorate, said no injuries were reported among security personnel during the latest breaches. He emphasized the need to contain tensions and maintain dialogue, noting that many residents are appealing to authorities to end the unrest peacefully. Abdel-Baqi also stated that “Hikmat al-Hijri, the spiritual leader of Syria’s Druze community, bears responsibility for dragging Suwayda toward bloodshed.”

Earlier on Saturday, security sources reported that “rebel gangs in Suwayda targeted service facilities in the Mazraa area of the provincial countryside.” The attacks follow incidents on Thursday, when outlaw groups fired mortar shells and heavy machine guns at Walgha, Tel al-Aqra’, Tel Hadid, and Mazraa.
