Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Condemns Israeli Occupation Violations Against Palestinians
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
ALGIERS, Nov 16 (KUNA) -- The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union strongly condemned on Sunday the violations committed by the Israeli occupation authorities and settlers against the Palestinian people, urging the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities in supporting the Palestinian cause.
In a statement, the Union affirmed its rejection of these practices that target religious sanctities and constitute a blatant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
The statement also strongly denounced the storming of the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque by occupation forces and extremist groups, along with the accompanying provocations against worshippers and violations of the sanctity of the holy site.
The Union further condemned the targeting of the Hajjah Hamida Mosque in the village of Kifl Haris, calling it a clear attempt to erase the religious and historical identity of the Palestinian people.
The statement, signed by Ibrahim Boughali, President of the Union and Speaker of the Algerian Parliament, warned that these repeated aggressive practices fuel cycles of violence and extremism and undermine prospects for achieving a just and lasting peace in the region.
The Union emphasized the necessity of obligating the Israeli occupation authorities to respect all signed agreements, particularly the Gaza Agreement reached in Sharm El-Sheikh, describing it as a key foundation for maintaining calm and preventing escalation.
The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union also called on the international community, as well as national and regional parliaments, to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities in supporting the Palestinian people and defending their legitimate rights-foremost among them the right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Union stressed the importance of holding the occupation authorities accountable for their systematic violations, which it said threaten international peace and security. (end)
