Turmoil Erupts at BBC Amid Trump Speech Controversy

(MENAFN) The “woke pro-trans” employees at BBC News are reportedly clashing with the organization’s governing board following the resignation of senior executives over the manipulation of a speech by US President Donald Trump in a documentary, according to a media outlet, citing insiders.

Facing growing criticism, the British broadcaster announced on Sunday that Director General Tim Davie and CEO Deborah Turness would be stepping down after it was revealed that two segments of Trump’s January 6, 2021, address at the US Capitol had been merged, despite being recorded nearly an hour apart.

President Trump has threatened legal action against the BBC, demanding $1 billion if the network does not issue a “full and fair retraction” of the program by Friday.

In a letter to Parliament on Monday, BBC board chair Samir Shah acknowledged that the “way the speech was edited did give the impression of a direct call for violent action.”

The media outlet reports that the controversy has sparked a full-blown “civil war” within the BBC, with “woke pro-trans staff” reportedly revolting against the board, seemingly in response to the acknowledgment of the error.

Meanwhile, the tabloid cited an anonymous well-known TV personality who expressed surprise that Davie and Turness had not been removed earlier, given the numerous controversies the broadcaster faced under their leadership.

An insider reportedly commented that the BBC had shifted in a more woke direction in recent years, being “captured by a minority ideology,” with “one-sided” coverage of transgender topics and the Gaza conflict.
