Indonesia Considers Limiting Online Games

(MENAFN) Indonesia is evaluating the potential imposition of restrictions on online games, including PUBG, in the wake of last week’s school explosion inside a mosque that injured nearly 100 individuals.

President Prabowo Subianto “is considering restricting online games after a student was linked to a school explosion that injured 96 people,” a high-ranking Indonesian official told reporters on Sunday.

The casualties included both students and teachers when the blast struck the school mosque in Jakarta during Friday prayers.

The incident took place at North Jakarta's State Senior High School 72 around 12:30 pm (05:30 GMT) on Friday.

According to a media outlet, a student who was reportedly subjected to frequent bullying "had allegedly brought a homemade bomb.”

“Authorities reportedly found a soda can believed to be part of the explosive device. An airsoft-style rifle with references to infamous mass shooters was also discovered at the scene,” the report added.

State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said, “The president said that we need to come up with ways to restrict and find a solution to the negative effects of online games.”

He added, “There is a possibility that such games can influence our youth,” and further explained: “Take PUBG as an example. Players can easily learn the types of weapons. And they will start to normalize violence.”
