Japan gets struck by strong 5.8 magnitude earthquake on Monday
(MENAFN) Japan was struck by a 5.8-magnitude earthquake on Monday off Yamada, in the eastern Iwate Prefecture, according to the US Geological Survey. The quake occurred at a depth of 11.2 kilometers (6.9 miles) at around 4:23 pm local time (0723 GMT). The Japan Meteorological Agency reported the tremor measured three on the country’s seven-point seismic intensity scale.
There were no immediate reports of damage or a tsunami advisory. This earthquake follows a 6.6-magnitude tremor in the same region just a day earlier, which initially prompted a tsunami warning that was later lifted.
