Kremlin Emphasizes Achieving Goals While Remaining Open to Diplomacy

(MENAFN) Russia aims to resolve the conflict in Ukraine as swiftly as possible, but achieving the initial objectives remains crucial, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on Monday, according to a news agency.

During a press conference in Moscow, Peskov remarked that Russia continues to be receptive to a political and diplomatic solution, calling this approach “preferable.”

Nevertheless, he emphasized that the terms for peace are contingent on fulfilling the objectives set by Moscow at the start of its so-called “special military operation” in February 2022, which included the "demilitarization" and "denazification" of Ukraine.

Peskov asserted that talks have stalled “through no fault of Russia,” placing the responsibility on European nations for encouraging Kyiv to hope for a military triumph.

He further claimed that Western countries are “egging on” Ukraine instead of fostering negotiations.

The spokesman described the situation on the front lines as “dynamic,” indicating a continued weakening of Ukraine’s position on the battlefield.

He also suggested that over time, more Ukrainians may support peace “on Russia’s terms,” despite internal pressures within the country.

Peskov additionally lauded Kazakhstan’s willingness to host and facilitate potential peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv, noting that Russia “highly values” Astana’s stance.
