Yarmouk University Scholar Wins Best Arab Scientist Award In Biotechnology

Irbid, Nov. 10 (Petra) -- Dr. Hanan Al-Malkawi, a faculty member at the Department of Biological Sciences in Yarmouk University's Faculty of Science, has been named the Best Arab Scientist in Biotechnology for 2025, specifically in the field of microbial biotechnology.
The award was announced during the Arab-Asian Annual Biotechnology Conference 2025, organized by the Library of Alexandria in Egypt. The selection process was conducted by specialized international scientific committees based on rigorous global criteria and supported by advanced artificial intelligence and avatar-based virtual evaluation systems.
In a statement on Monday, Yarmouk University said the recognition reflects Dr. Al-Malkawi's distinguished scientific achievements and her pioneering role in advancing biotechnological research across the Arab region. Her work has significantly contributed to the development of microbial biotechnology and strengthened the region's scientific research capacity.
Dr. Al-Malkawi also participated in the conference as a keynote speaker, presenting the latest research trends in biotechnology and discussing sustainability and adaptation strategies in arid and semi-arid environments of the Arab world.
The conference brought together scientists and experts from over 15 countries, who explored cutting-edge developments and applications of biotechnology in agriculture, industry, health, and environmental sciences, while addressing global challenges related to climate change and food security.
This achievement adds to Dr. Al-Malkawi's distinguished academic and research record and reinforces Yarmouk University's standing as a regional center of excellence in scientific innovation and research.
Dr. Al-Malkawi was previously decorated by His Majesty King Abdullah II with the King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein Medal of Excellence, Second Class (2022), in recognition of her notable contributions to biotechnology, nanotechnology, and their applications in medicine, agriculture, environment, food, and industry.
