Trump claims BBC interfered in 2024 presidential election

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has accused the BBC of attempting to influence the 2024 presidential election, alleging that the British state-funded broadcaster manipulated coverage of his January 6, 2021 speech.

BBC Director General Tim Davie and Head of News Deborah Turness announced their resignations on Sunday amid controversy over the hour-long documentary ‘Trump: A Second Chance?’, which aired just a week before last year’s US presidential vote.

“The TOP people in the BBC, including TIM DAVIE, the BOSS, are all quitting/FIRED, because they were caught ‘doctoring’ my very good (PERFECT!) speech of January 6th,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The documentary included a spliced version of Trump’s speech, combining statements made almost an hour apart and pairing them with footage of protesters filmed before he began speaking.

The controversy emerged after a whistleblower memo from former BBC standards adviser Michael Prescott, reportedly made public by news outlets, alleged that senior executives disregarded complaints raised by the corporation’s own standards office.

“Thank you to Telegraph for exposing these Corrupt ‘Journalists.’ These are very dishonest people who tried to step on the scales of a Presidential Election,” Trump said. “What a terrible thing for Democracy!” he added, emphasizing that the alleged interference originated “from a Foreign Country, one that many consider our Number One Ally.”
