Profile Articles Activity

As a digital criminologist, I lead research and foster collaboration with government and non-government organisations to uncover and address technosocial biases within platforms, institutions, and cultures. These biases can erode trust-both interpersonal and institutional-while deepening social exclusion. My work not only explores these critical issues, but also shapes the next generation of experts through higher-degree research supervision and innovative undergraduate teaching and learning.

With over twenty publications in this field, including two sole-authored monographs, my research examines the complex intersections of technology, discrimination and justice. My 2023 monograph Representation, Resistance and the Digiqueer: Fighting for Recognition in Technocratic Times (Bristol University Press 2023) analyses the relationship between mis- and disinformation, algorithmic discrimination, digital platform accountability, and LGBTQ+ communities' responses to rising hate. Meanwhile, my 2021 monograph Policing Legitimacy: Social Media, Scandal and Sexual Citizenship (Springer 2021), explores the impact of bystander social media video scrutiny on police, LGBTQ+ rights, and police accountability.

My research is widely published and cited in leading international, peer-reviewed journals, including the British Journal of Criminology, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Policing and Society, Crime, Media, Culture, The Journal of Criminology, and Current Issues in Criminal Justice.

Beyond academia, I bring these insights into public debate through frequent invited speaking and writing engagements. I explore topics such as digital media's role in driving discrimination, sexual politics (over 65,000 reads in The Conversation) and public perceptions of safety at major LGBTQ+ policed events like the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. By bridging research and real-world impact, I aim to drive meaningful conversations about justice, technology, and inclusion in an increasingly digital world.
