U.S. Airports to Cut Ten Percent of Flights
(MENAFN) Starting Friday, flight operations will be reduced by 10% at forty airports throughout the United States as a result of the continuing federal government shutdown, announced Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy on Wednesday.
"There is going to be a 10% reduction in capacity at 40 of our locations," Duffy stated during a press briefing held in Louisville, Kentucky.
“This is not based on what airline travel has more flights out of what location. This is about where is the pressure and how do we alleviate the pressure," he explained, emphasizing that the adjustments are being made to manage operational strain rather than specific airline activity.
Appearing alongside Duffy, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Bryan Bedford mentioned that the agency concluded a 10% cut in scheduled flight capacity is the right step to reduce the burden on air traffic controllers.
"As we continue to see staffing triggers, there will be additional measures that will be taken in those specific markets," Duffy added, indicating that further actions may be implemented in certain regions if workforce challenges persist.
