Madbouli Seeks To Boost Qatari Investments, Reaffirms Support For Yemen At Doha Summit

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli held a series of high-level meetings in Doha on the sidelines of the first Global Alliance Leaders' Summit to Combat Hunger and Poverty, where he represented President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

During his visit, Madbouli met with the Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA), led by Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, inviting Qatari investors to expand their presence in Egypt. He affirmed the government's readiness to remove any obstacles facing investors and said he would personally follow up on major projects. Madbouli revealed that a significant joint investment deal between Egypt and Qatar is expected to be announced in the coming days, reflecting directives from both countries' leaderships to deepen economic cooperation.

The Prime Minister highlighted improvements in Egypt's economic indicators, including a stabilized foreign exchange market and expectations that inflation will decline to around 8% next year, down from roughly 12% currently. He also outlined government efforts to enhance the investment climate through large-scale development initiatives such as the“Housing for All Egyptians” program.

Members of the QBA praised Egypt's official inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum, describing it as a source of pride for the Arab world. They also expressed keen interest in strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties, noting their close coordination with the Egyptian Embassy in Doha.

Madbouli also met with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, where the two discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation and activate new Qatari investments in Egypt across several sectors. Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar's full support for Egypt's regional and international efforts and praised the countries' ongoing coordination on the Palestinian issue.

Madbouli conveyed President Al-Sisi's greetings to Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, expressing Egypt's appreciation for Qatar's regional role and its commitment to deepening economic, trade, and investment relations. Both sides agreed to move forward with a package of Qatari investments in Egypt, starting with a joint partnership to develop a project in the Samla and Alam El-Roum areas in Matrouh Governorate.

The two leaders also reviewed developments in Gaza and efforts to implement the Sharm El-Sheikh ceasefire agreement, stressing the importance of following up on the outcomes of the sixth session of the Egyptian-Qatari Joint Higher Committee, held last August in New Alamein.

On the sidelines of the summit, Madbouli met with Yemeni Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Brik, reaffirming Egypt's unwavering support for Yemen's internationally recognized government and its commitment to the country's unity, sovereignty, and stability. He emphasized that Yemen's security is integral to regional stability, particularly in the Red Sea, where maritime navigation remains under threat due to ongoing tensions.

Bin Brik expressed appreciation for Egypt's historic support for Yemen and for its hospitality toward Yemeni citizens living in Egypt. He underscored the economic and security repercussions of the ongoing crisis, particularly on Red Sea and Suez Canal maritime routes, and voiced interest in expanding cooperation in sectors such as electricity, customs, taxation, and healthcare. He also called for the early convening of the Egyptian-Yemeni Joint Committee.

Madbouli welcomed the proposal and suggested holding a business forum alongside the committee meeting to boost trade and investment ties. Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to restoring stability in Yemen and promoting intra-Yemeni dialogue.

Through these meetings, Egypt reinforced its regional partnerships, sought to attract new investments, and reaffirmed its diplomatic and economic leadership role during the Doha Summit.
