IICT To Set Up Hyderabad Campus To Boost India's Gaming, Animation & Digital Media Sector
Speaking at the WAVES Animation Bazaar and the 8th IndiaJoy 2025 at HICC, Hitex, the Secretary said,“The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies - the first of its kind - will be set up across India, with one of its campuses coming up soon in Hyderabad.”
Jaju said IICT-which he described as the first institution of its kind in the country-will be set up across multiple locations, with Hyderabad identified as one of the first campuses.
He highlighted the Telugu film industry's role and the Telangana government's support in advancing the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) ecosystem, noting that Hyderabad continues to build its position as a national hub for creative technologies.
“India's media and entertainment sector is rapidly expanding, serving as a vital expression of the nation's soft power,” he added.
He said that the WAVES initiative envisions India as a global leader in digital creativity and innovation, emphasising Hyderabad's pivotal contribution to Indian cinema and creative technology.
Drawing a parallel with the Indian Premier League's impact on cricket, he said WAVES has the potential to transform the Indian film industry by combining artistic excellence with technological innovation and fostering global collaboration.
As part of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between IICT and T-Hub to promote media-tech innovation and startup incubation.
The expo also featured startups from the WAVEX programme and showcased intellectual properties developed by winners of the Create in India Challenge.
A physical content marketplace, WAVES Animation Bazaar, was launched to connect animation creators with buyers and OTT platforms, aiming to support commercialisation of creative content.
Later, Jaju chaired the IFFI Round Table with Telugu and Malayalam film producers, announcing Japan as the partner country for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025.
He reaffirmed the Ministry's efforts to strengthen anti-piracy measures and said a streamlined multilingual film certification system will be introduced soon.
