Army Wants No Role In Politics, Says DG ISPR
Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said on Monday that the Pakistan Army does not want to get involved in politics and should be kept away from political matters, adding that any decision to send a peacekeeping force to Gaza would be made by the government and parliament.
Speaking to journalists in Peshawar, the military spokesperson said,“Enough is enough, Afghanistan must stop cross-border terrorism. Pakistan will not beg the Afghan Taliban for security.” He stressed that Pakistan would establish peace through its own strength, urging Kabul to either take action against terrorists or hand them over to Islamabad.
The DG ISPR said Afghanistan had become a hub of international terrorism where multiple militant organizations were operating. He clarified that Pakistan supports a representative government in Afghanistan.
Terrorism and the Narco-Economy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was linked to the narco-economy, with strong ties between terrorist networks and criminal elements. He revealed that poppy cultivation covered around 12,000 acres in the province, yielding profits between 1.8 million and 3.2 million rupees per acre.

During the Tirah operation, he said, poppy fields were destroyed through coordinated actions involving drones, the Anti-Narcotics Force, and the Frontier Corps.
Responding to a question, the DG ISPR said he was a public servant and did not accuse anyone.“Sohail Afridi is the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and our institutional relations with him remain intact,” he said, adding that the decision to impose Governor's Rule, if any, rests with the government, not the military.
Operations and Cross-Border Links
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that more than 62,000 operations had been conducted across the country in 2025, during which 1,667 terrorists were killed and 206 security personnel embraced martyrdom.
According to the spokesperson, 206 Afghan Taliban fighters and 100 members of the militant group Fitna-tul-Khawarij were among those killed in clashes.
Senior journalist Hamid Mir, who attended the briefing, said journalists were shown the same evidence that had earlier been presented to the Afghan Taliban during the Doha talks - including proof of former Afghan soldiers, carrying Afghan Army identity cards, found involved in terrorist activities inside Pakistan.
In his concluding remarks, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry reiterated that the army does not wish to engage in politics.“If someone is trying to drag us into it, that is their own strategy,” he said.
