Amir Meets King Of Belgium

Doha, Qatar: The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani met with HM King Philippe of the Kingdom of Belgium at the Amiri Diwan today, on the occasion of His Majesty's visit to the country to participate in the Second World Summit for Social Development, which begins tomorrow in Doha.

At the beginning of the meeting, His Highness the Amir welcomed His Majesty the King of Belgium and his accompanying delegation, noting the importance of the strong relations between the two countries in various fields. His Highness emphasized the State of Qatar's aspiration to strengthen these relations and expand them to broader horizons in a way that achieves the common interests of the two friendly nations. His Highness also expressed his gratitude to His Majesty for accepting the invitation to participate in the Summit.

For his part, His Majesty the King of Belgium expressed his thanks to His Highness the Amir for the warm welcome and for the invitation to participate in the Summit. He affirmed his country's keenness to consolidate and develop the friendly relations and cooperation with Qatar in all fields, and commended His Highness the Amir's role and the State of Qatar's efforts in supporting peace in the region and the world.

During the meeting, bilateral relations between the two friendly countries were discussed, along with ways to strengthen and develop them in various fields. The most prominent regional and international developments were also addressed, in addition to a number of topics of common interest.

The meeting was attended by Chief of the Amiri Diwan HE Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, and a number of other high-ranking officials.

From the Belgian side, the meeting was attended by HE Rob Beenders, Minister for Consumer Protection, the Fight against Social Security Fraud, Persons with Disabilities and Equal Opportunities, and members of the official delegation accompanying His Majesty the King.

His Highness the Amir and His Majesty King Philippe had previously held a bilateral meeting during which they discussed a number of topics of mutual interest at the regional and international levels.
