Erdogan Condemns Sudan Massacres at OIC Meeting
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sharply criticized the recent atrocities in Sudan's El-Fasher, emphasizing that the African nation's territorial integrity and sovereignty must be safeguarded.
"No one who carries a heart in their chest—not a stone—can accept massacres against civilians in Sudan's El-Fasher in recent days. We cannot remain silent about this," Erdogan stated in his opening remarks at the 41st session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Istanbul on Monday.
His comments highlighted the need for international solidarity and action to protect Sudan’s national integrity.
Erdogan stressed that Sudan's sovereignty and independence must be upheld, urging the global community to support the Sudanese people during this crisis. He called for a firm stance to ensure the country's territorial integrity remains intact, underscoring the importance of collective support for Sudan in these challenging times.
In his address, Erdogan also touched on the ongoing conflict in Gaza, where he noted that the Palestinian militant group Hamas seems resolute in honoring the ceasefire agreement, while Israel continues its aggressive actions. "Israel has killed over 200 innocent people since the Gaza ceasefire deal, and has not stopped its occupation and attacks in the West Bank," he said. Erdogan criticized Israel’s actions and emphasized the need for increased humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
“We must increase our humanitarian aid to the Gazan people and then launch the reconstruction works. The Israeli government is doing everything in its power to prevent this as well,” he added, pointing out the obstacles Israel has put in place to hinder efforts for rebuilding the region.
Erdogan also voiced strong support for the reconstruction plan drafted by the Arab League and the OIC, stressing that it should be implemented without delay.
Finally, the Turkish president reaffirmed the OIC's responsibility in leading the revival of Gaza, highlighting the importance of protecting the status of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and preventing the annexation of the West Bank.
He concluded by calling for the preservation of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and rejecting any attempts to undermine its significance.
