Ukraine Receives Additional Patriots from Germany

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has confirmed that Ukraine has received more US-made Patriot air defense systems from Germany.

The move comes as Ukraine continues to push for more long-range weapons from its Western allies, including Tomahawk cruise missiles and additional Patriot batteries.

According to a media outlet, although Ukraine had acquired eight Patriot systems, only six were operational as of May.

In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Zelensky expressed his gratitude to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, stating, "Our agreements have been fulfilled. More Patriots are now in Ukraine and being put into operation."

He also emphasized the ongoing need for more systems to safeguard key infrastructure and cities throughout Ukraine.

"Of course, more systems are needed to protect key infrastructure sites and our cities across the entire territory of Ukraine, and we will continue working to obtain them – not only at the political level with states and leaders but also directly with manufacturers of all necessary air defense systems and missiles for them," Zelensky added.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has claimed that it has destroyed approximately 40 Patriot launchers since 2023.

Despite this, US President Donald Trump has resisted supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles.

However, he has permitted NATO members to purchase US weapons on behalf of Ukraine.

Moscow has repeatedly asserted that no amount of foreign assistance will alter the outcome of the conflict in Ukraine’s favor.
