China Denounces Attacks on Civilians in Sudan
(MENAFN) Beijing on Monday denounced attacks on civilians in Sudan following the seizure of El-Fasher in North Darfur by paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which local and international groups report carried out massacres.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told reporters in the Chinese capital, “closely follows situation in Sudan and condemns acts against the civilians.”
Mao added that China hopes “Sudan will end the conflict as soon as possible, ease the humanitarian crisis, resume the political process at an early date and restore peace and stability and achieve reconstruction and development.”
The RSF took control of El-Fasher on Oct. 26, carrying out attacks on civilians amid warnings that the offensive could solidify Sudan’s geographic division, according to local and international organizations.
Later, RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, widely known as “Hemedti,” acknowledged that his forces had committed “violations” in El-Fasher, stating that investigation committees had been established.
The RSF has been fighting the Sudanese army since April 15, 2023, a conflict that successive regional and international mediation efforts have failed to resolve. The war has resulted in at least 20,000 deaths and displaced more than 15 million people as refugees or internally displaced persons, according to UN and local reports.
