Shura To Hold Forum On Parliamentarians' Role In Social Development

Doha: The Shura Council, in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), will hold a parliamentary forum on Tuesday titled“Investing in People and Institutions: The Role of Parliamentarians in Social Development”, on the sidelines of the Second Global Social Development Summit hosted by Qatar from 4 to 6 November.

Speaker of the Shura Council, H E Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanem, will deliver the opening speech at the forum, alongside the Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong. The forum, held at Qatar National Convention Center, where the summit takes place, will include a panel discussion titled“Building Bridges for Inclusive Development”. Parliamentarians and social development stakeholders will discuss a variety of topics, including human investment, expanding economic participation, and strengthening the role of institutions in related fields.

Speakers, including representatives from the European Parliament, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Global Policy Forum, will explore ways to enhance collaboration among sectors and partners to develop more effective solutions to social development challenges. The session, moderated by HE Member of the Shura Council and member of the IPU Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, Yousuf bin Ali Al Khater, will also highlight practical experiences and successful models, aiming to produce actionable recommendations that support parliamentary work in this field.

Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council and Vice-Chair of the IPU Executive Committee H E Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, will deliver the closing remarks, summarising participants' insights and ideas discussed during the forum.

Tashkent Declaration, adopted during the 150th session of the IPU General Assembly in April, reaffirmed the commitment of parliaments worldwide to placing social development at the forefront of their legislative priorities.
