Pakistan Honors Türkiye’s Century-Long Friendship

(MENAFN) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday commended the enduring and historic relationship between Islamabad and Ankara, emphasizing Türkiye’s exceptional path of advancement and modernization.

Speaking at a ceremony hosted at the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad to commemorate the 102nd anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, Sharif noted that Turkish flags could be seen waving across Pakistan, symbolizing that "our hearts beat with our Turkish brothers and sisters."

“We are gathered here to celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, founded by the great Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk,” Sharif stated, honoring the legacy of the nation’s founder.

The celebration brought together federal ministers, senior government officials, diplomats, and members of the Turkish community. Prominent buildings throughout the capital were illuminated in red and white, showcasing the Turkish flag in solidarity and celebration.

The Pakistani leader admired Türkiye’s extraordinary progress under the visionary guidance of Ataturk and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, describing Erdogan as “a leading light of progress, development, and resilience.”

Sharif reflected on the centuries-old bond uniting the people of both nations and highlighted Türkiye’s unwavering support for Pakistan “in wars, floods, earthquakes, and every difficult time.”

He further remarked that Türkiye has consistently extended assistance to Pakistan during times of crisis—particularly after destructive floods and earthquakes—by constructing schools, hospitals, and entire villages in affected regions.
