Khost Families Reconcile After 29 Years
The families involved belong to the Jabha area of Jaji Maidan district and the Tutak area of Bak district. Speaking at a reconciliation ceremony, Khost Governor Mawlavi Abdullah Mukhtar said unity among people and resolving internal disputes were among the Islamic Emirate's key priorities.
He added:“Since the Islamic Emirate's return, hundreds of feuds across remote parts of the country have been resolved, and this process continues.”
Members of both families said their lives over the past 29 years were filled with hardships, but now they are happy at this peace between them.
Hazratullah Haleem, a member of one of the families, told Pajhwok he was pleased that the conflict had ended and thanked those who made efforts to bring reconciliation.
He said:“Evil is evil - even its name is bad, and it only brings more evil. Now is the time to make peace among ourselves. My message to others is to stay away from hatred and jealousy and to end existing enmities.”
Hamza Ziarmaal, a member of the other family, said:“Our previous life was full of trouble. Now that reconciliation has been achieved, our lives will be much better, and we feel very happy.”
Meanwhile, Mawlavi Mohammad Wali Siddiqi, director of Borders and Tribal Affairs in Khost, told Pajhwok Afghan News that in the past two years, the department has resolved 83 similar personal feuds and disputes, and efforts are ongoing to continue the process.
He said:“So far, 720 personal conflicts are registered with us in Khost. This is the 83rd reconciliation, and another one will take place tomorrow. All Emirate officials are ready to help end such conflicts peacefully.”
Siddiqi added that besides personal feuds between families, serious efforts are underway to resolve tribal disputes and other local conflicts as well.
Officials did not reveal the original cause of the feud.
