Egypt: Grounded Oil Tanker In Suez Canal Floats Again


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Oct 28 (KUNA) -- Naval rescue efforts have managed to deal with an oil tanker, the Komander, which ran aground in Suez Canal while crossing the waterway, Suez Canal authority head Osama Rabie announced on Tuesday.
In a statement, Rabie affirmed traffic resumed normally from both sides.
As soon as the main navigation monitoring center was informed, at 12:30 pm local time, about a malfunction that lead to the grounding, five locomotives were sent to the site and helped the vessel re-position itself and float again, he noted.
This process took only 30 minutes, and everything was normal at 1:00 p.m.
Rabie sent a reassuring message that the Suez Canal is able to immediately deal with tough situations and efficiently manage navigation emergency, thanks to professional teams and technical resources of the authority.
According to the statement, about 34 ships with a total load of 1.4 million tons crossed the Canal from both sides today. (end)
