Trump Urges Russia to Focus on Ending War

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump stated on Monday that Russia should prioritize ending its war with Ukraine rather than focusing on missile tests.

His remarks came a day after Moscow announced the successful completion of its new nuclear-powered cruise missile test, Burevestnik.

Trump, who was aboard Air Force One traveling from Malaysia to Japan during a three-nation Asia tour, responded to questions about Russia's missile, which is capable of reaching distances up to 14,000 kilometers (8,700 miles).

Trump downplayed the importance of the missile test, emphasizing that the United States has a nuclear submarine stationed "right off their shores" and does not require such long-range capabilities. "We test missiles all the time," Trump added.

Instead of pursuing missile tests, Trump urged Russia to focus on ending the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

"You ought to get the war ended ... instead of testing missiles," he remarked.
Since beginning his second term in January, Trump has been actively working to bring the war in Ukraine to a close.

He met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in August but subsequently canceled a planned summit in Budapest for this month, citing his reluctance to engage in a "wasted meeting."

Russia has continued to reject calls from both the US and European nations to halt the fighting and establish a ceasefire along the current front lines.
