French detectives find clues of Louvre Museum heist being inside job

(MENAFN) French authorities probing the recent robbery at the Louvre Museum have uncovered indications that the heist may have involved internal collaboration.

Reports indicate that investigators found communications suggesting that museum staff were in contact with suspected criminals prior to the break-in.

“We have found digital forensic evidence that shows there was cooperation with one of the museum’s security guards and the thieves,” a source stated. “Sensitive information was passed on about the museum’s security, which is how they were aware of the breach.”

Last week, four masked intruders armed with a chainsaw broke into the Paris museum, stealing eight pieces of France’s crown jewels valued at roughly $102 million. The robbers reportedly used a crane to access a balcony and smash a window at the Galerie d’Apollon, which remained open to visitors at the time. The operation lasted just seven minutes, and the thieves escaped via a furniture elevator before fleeing on motorbikes.

Investigators have collected over 150 DNA samples from helmets, gloves, and tools left at the scene. Meanwhile, the Louvre’s director described the theft as a “terrible failure,” noting that a nearby security camera had been “pointing in the wrong direction.” In response, several of the museum’s most precious jewels have been moved to the Bank of France for safekeeping.

Authorities reported the arrest of two suspects near Paris, including one detained at Charles de Gaulle Airport while attempting to fly to Algeria. Sources indicate that the men are in their 30s, and one was identified through DNA evidence. The Paris prosecutor confirmed the arrests but criticized media leaks, warning they could “hinder the efforts of the 100 investigators mobilized.”

There is currently no indication that any of the stolen crown jewels have been recovered. The French Interior Minister commended law enforcement for their progress, emphasizing that the inquiry must continue “in accordance with judicial secrecy.”
