Russia Holds Large-Scale Nuclear Forces Exercise
(MENAFN) Russia has carried out a large-scale strategic nuclear forces exercise, directly supervised by President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin announced Wednesday.
The official statement detailed that the drills engaged all three branches of Russia’s nuclear triad—land, sea, and air forces. The operation included live launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and air-launched cruise missiles.
Specifically, the exercise featured the launch of a Yars ICBM from the Plesetsk State Test Cosmodrome targeting the Kura range in Kamchatka, alongside a Sineva ballistic missile fired from the strategic nuclear submarine Bryansk in the Barents Sea.
Additionally, Tu-95MS long-range bombers participated by deploying air-launched cruise missiles during the exercise.
The Kremlin stated that the exercise was designed to evaluate the preparedness of Russia’s command and control infrastructure, along with the practical skills of personnel overseeing their units. It also confirmed that all training objectives were successfully accomplished.
