(MENAFN- Gulf Times) HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie, has conducted a field visit to the Construction Waste Recycling Plant operated by Qatar Primary Materials Company (QPMC) in Rawdat Rashed area.
The visit aimed to review the latest technologies used in waste recycling and to observe the progress and achievements made in this sector. He was briefed on the operations of the plant, which is considered one of the largest construction waste processing facilities in the country.
Around 14,000 tonnes of waste are transported daily to Rawdat Rashed landfill from various regions. The minister also inspected the full production system for recycled sand and the mixed waste sorting unit, which helps process materials that are difficult to separate. This enhances recycling efficiency and contributes to the preservation of natural resources.
HE al-Subaie stressed that these efforts are part of the ministry's strategy to promote the concept of a circular economy and effective waste management, by transforming waste into economic resources that support development projects. He noted that recycling helps reduce the environmental impact of waste and strengthens environmental sustainability in the country.

The ministry is working with partners in both the public and private sectors to expand recycling projects and develop supporting legislation. He highlighted that Rawdat Rashed experience serves as a successful model that can be replicated in other areas, such as municipal and industrial waste.
Abdulaziz bin Ibrahim al-Tamimi, CEO of QPMC, expressed his appreciation to HE the Minister and the accompanying delegation for the visit, reaffirming the company's commitment to environmental sustainability and to developing its facilities by introducing new production lines and improving sorting and processing technologies.
He pointed out that Rawdat Rashed landfill contains about 100mn tonnes of construction waste, and that since taking over the site in 2020, QPMC has successfully recycled more than 20mn tonnes, converting them into construction materials that meet Qatari specifications.
He noted that these efforts are in line with the implementation plan of the Strategy for the Management, Development, and Sustainability of Natural Resource Sources, overseen by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
At the conclusion of the visit, the minister held a meeting with QPMC officials to discuss ways to utilise construction waste in infrastructure projects and explore opportunities for cooperation in environmental innovation and sustainable resource management, contributing to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2024–2030.
