U.S. Republicans In Congress Put Russia Sanctions Bill On Hold

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Politico reported this on Monday, according to Ukrinform.

“I think at least right now [Graham] is working with the White House trying to determine whether or not that meeting that happens in a couple of weeks will be a fruitful one,” Thune said.

He also noted that he would wait to see how the planned summit in Hungary unfolds.

Another source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the bill is effectively on hold until after the Trump-Putin meeting.

As reported by Ukrinform, last week Senate Majority Leader John Thune had expressed readiness to support the bill, which envisions new trade and financial restrictions against Russia. He said the bill, developed by Republican Lindsey Graham together with Democrat Richard Blumenthal, could be considered“within the next 30 days.”

However, the following day, U.S. President Donald Trump said he intended to discuss potential sanctions against Russia with Republican leaders in Congress, suggesting the move might be ill-timed as he was preparing to meet Putin again in Hungary.
