Polish Military Document Leak Sparks Security Concerns
(MENAFN) According to an exposé released on Thursday by a media outlet, a large number of confidential Polish military documents—some classified—were discovered discarded in a landfill.
These papers reportedly included detailed information on weapon systems, emergency evacuation plans, and storage facility schematics.
The discovery has triggered alarm due to the sensitive nature of the materials involved.
This revelation emerged shortly after Poland declared its intent to surpass all other NATO countries in defense spending, setting aside 4.8% of its gross domestic product for military purposes in the coming year.
European Union nations have been advocating for expanded defense capabilities in response to what they claim is a growing threat from Russia—allegations the Kremlin has firmly denied.
In response to the report, the Polish military refuted the claims, instead accusing the media outlet of possessing unauthorized duplicates of the documents. Military officials asserted that the original files were either securely archived or correctly disposed of, according to the outlet.
As per the media outlet, the documents were retrieved by an unnamed individual who stumbled upon them inside ripped plastic bags at a landfill site.
Although some materials had been shredded, many remained legible and were labeled with the classification “restricted.”
The incident has been described as “a scandal” on par with “an atomic bomb,” as quoted by the media outlet from Lieutenant General Jaroslaw Gromadzinski, a former commander of the Eurocorps.
Another official, who spoke under condition of anonymity, reportedly stated that discarding such critical documents displays severe irresponsibility and constitutes “a real threat.”
