(MENAFN) Türkiye’s intelligence agency was instrumental in facilitating the Doha talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which resulted in an agreement for an immediate ceasefire, according to Turkish security sources on Sunday.

The sources said discussions in the Qatari capital were held with the backing of Türkiye and Qatar and attended by Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin, along with the heads of intelligence services and defense ministers from both Islamabad and Kabul.

The talks primarily aimed to “extend the current ceasefire and resolve recent border clashes,” the sources noted. Negotiations reportedly stretched late into the night, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other world leaders receiving constant updates on progress.

Both sides agreed to continue dialogue to maintain the ceasefire “in a sustainable and verifiable manner.” After 14 hours of talks, it was decided that the technical committee’s first meeting—tasked with outlining the details of the ceasefire—will take place in Istanbul.

The upcoming session will also explore long-term solutions to shared challenges, including terrorism, migration, and border security.

Earlier, on Oct. 11, the intelligence chiefs of Türkiye, Pakistan, and Qatar convened in Istanbul for trilateral consultations, during which simultaneous contacts were established with Afghan representatives.
