Amman, Oct. 19 (Petra) – A consultative meeting held Sunday at the Ministry of Agriculture reviewed developments in olive oil production and prices for the current season, amid challenges in the local market and a noticeable increase in prices compared with previous seasons.
The meeting, chaired by the Ministry's Secretary-General Mohammad Hayari, brought together the President of the General Union of Jordanian Farmers, Odeh Rawashdeh, and the President of the General Syndicate of Jordanian Olive Oil Mills Owners and Olive Producers, Muhammad Najdawi.
Participants discussed measures to ensure market stability and safeguard the interests of both farmers and consumers. It was agreed to continue monitoring production volumes and price movements to maintain market balance.
The attendees stressed that if prices continue to rise, the Ministry of Agriculture will consider allowing olive oil imports from reliable sources to meet domestic demand. It was also decided to permit families arriving from the State of Palestine to bring up to five tins of olive oil for personal use, in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations.
Participants underlined the importance of maintaining a fair balance between producer and consumer interests, emphasizing the need to ensure the availability of high-quality olive oil at reasonable prices while preserving the sustainability of the agricultural sector and supporting local production.
